Watercolor Tranquility
from The Winchester Star (online), Lexington, MA
April 12, 2008
Winchester, MA - Aberjona River Gallery, at 184 Swanton St., will exhibit recent watercolors
by Robin Samiljan of Swampscott, entitled 'Tranquility East,' from April 12 to May 15, 2008.
The gallery, located in the administrative wing of the Aberjona Nursing
and Rehab facility is totally handicap accessible, offering a therapeutic atmosphere
through the revolving monthly exhibits that may be seen there.
This current exhibit should be a case in point; the artist drawing
on her experience of seeking tranquility through her art and study of eastern
forms. Very often the artist combining meditative landscapes and floral imagery
with poetry and prose, draws the viewer into their own state of reflection.
However, in the words of the artist, 'Ironically, the current conflict
in Tibet is at variance with such tranquility.'
Robin Samiljan is involved in various art organizations
in New England. She regularly submits work to local, regional, and national
juried shows and was the recipient of the Canson, Inc. award at the Northeast
Watercolor Society International juried show October 2005. Childrens Hospital
in Boston has purchased an assortment of her works for their permanent
collection and the Cancer Center at Mass General Hospital has featured
one of Robin’s paintings in their 2007 calendar, an honor received by
only 12 of the participating artists in the ‘Illuminations’ program.
Robin teaches watercolor workshops in the Continuing Education Department
at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, and is available to do demonstrations of her
watercolor techniques upon request.
