Artist Statement...
"To live life with intensity, passion, and expression; that is why
I paint, re-creating and capturing a place and time in nature.
I am inspired by the natural elements that surround us and
recognize that we each see things in our own way. I use color
and shape as a base for a creative viewing of the theme in my
paintings rather than forming and contouring a realistic,
photographic type image.
The subject matter becomes an
abstract expression, interpreting nature and transforming a
landscape or still life into a sense of balance, wholeness,
and symbolic realism. My most successful paintings draw the
viewer into the place or feeling I have painted and a shared
communication develops between us."
Robin Samiljan's work is inspired by nature, but strongly displays her personal interpretation and
complexity through the vibrant use of color. Spattered paint with contrasts creates
key visual elements in her work. Her artistic motivation is to transfer the calm and
inner peace of nature by using simplicity in shape and color combinations.
Robin Samiljan is involved in various art organizations in New England. She regularly
submits work to local, regional, and national juried shows and was the recipient of
the Canson, Inc. award at the Northeast Watercolor Society International juried
show October 2005. Childrens Hospital in Boston has purchased an assortment of
her works for their permanent collection and the Cancer Center at Mass General
Hospital has featured one of Robin's paintings in their 2007 calendar,
an honor received by only 12 of the participating artists in the 'Illuminations' program.
Robin teaches watercolor workshops
in the Continuing Education department at Montserrat College of Art
in Beverly, MA. She is available to do demonstrations of her watercolor techniques upon request.
